I am thrilled to be joining for my first year at FFS. Over the past several years, I have had the pleasure of being involved in FFS community events through family and friends. I have come to appreciate the unique, creative, and caring members that make up the FFS family.
The majority of my teaching experience has been in K-2 classrooms over the last 6 years at Philadelphia Charter School for Arts and Sciences here in the North East of Philly, as well as Philadelphia Montessori Charter School in the South West. Both schools have given me a deep appreciation for teaching the whole child and nurturing their creative interests as well as their academic development. I am excited to learn that many Montessori values go hand in hand with Quaker ones such as creating an environment of peace and simplicity, allowing the children to be the leaders of their learning, as well as learning from each other and the community. I look forward to the opportunity to continue instilling these values and doing so at the deeper and more independent levels of which third graders are capable.
My educational background comes from Millersville University in Lancaster, PA. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and took several extra classes with a concentration in STEM education. Through this program I was able to travel for several weeks in Sweden to learn about their educational practices there. These experiences sparked my interest in inquiry based learning, and drew me to FFS since PBL is incorporated and highly valued. I am currently working towards my masters in Curriculum and Instruction through Western Governors University (WGU).
Personally, you can find me attending the latest musical, spending time inside or out taking care of my plants, or spending time with family. In my high school years I became involved with my local community theater program. This is partially where I found my love of working with kids since the program ran from ages 5-18. Growing up, especially during the summer months, my family and I loved to spend time in our garden growing various fruits and veggies. This is something I’ve carried into adulthood and am currently enjoying exploring and experimenting with myself.
